White Air Round Up

White Air Round Up

With the White Air taking place in September the chances of good wind for the National Freestyle Championship were good but the weather gods had other ideas and have given us a late summer. The Isle of Wight was basked in hot sunshine and light winds all weekend. Although the wind was light plenty of windsurfing still took place, the UKWA ran the Tushingham/Starboard sponsored youth freestyle competition, TurfDog ran Have a Go sessions and a land windsurfing freestyle competition.

The Youth winner of the UKWA Freestyle Windsurfing was Ben Harwood after busting out every Gecko variation under the sun. Oscar Carmichael won the title of 1st Non Sponsored Junior Freestyler, taking with him one years sponsorship with Tushingham and Starboard. Oscar was delighted and is looking forward to his Tushingham Wedges and a Starboard Flare.

The gentle wind was ideal for land windsurfing and therefore Adam Cropper of TurfDog decided to put together a Freestyle Competition after finishing a busy morning of Have A Go participants, many of whom got their first taste of windsurfing over the weekend. The Turf Dog competition had most of the UKWA youth fleet entering and after several rounds of heats a two man final was held. Matt Parish and Oscar Carmichael were in a class of their own and the final was full of the latest freestyle moves. In the end they were tied on points and both were given the win.

White Air, as always is a spectacular event with masses of extreme sports converging in one place, many thanks to the event sponsors and organizers.
