Sunrise Sunset aim at £80,000 for Cancer Research

It’s less than 3 weeks to go until Sunrise Sunset 2011 on May 1st, from which Windsurfing4CancerResearch (W4CR) is hoping to raise £80,000 for UK cancer charities. W4CR is a charity formed in 2009 by windsurfer David Tuttlebee. It promotes awareness of cancer and supports exceptionally worthy causes in the battle against the disease. Since it began, W4CR has donated over £70,000 in support of specific projects or equipment including £10,000 each to major Bowel Cancer and Skin Cancer research projects, funding a Macmillan Cancer Nurse for 2 months and centrifuge equipment for the Royal Marsden Hospital.

At the Sunrise Sunset event, windsurfers will take to the water at 40 venues nationwide and undertake awesome challenges to raise money for causes including Breast Cancer Care and The Prostate Cancer Charity while continuing support for Macmillan and Cancer Research UK.

Olympic bronze medallist and W4CR ambassador Nick Dempsey who will take part on May 1st, says “I am proud to support W4CR’s efforts to raise awareness and funds in the fight against this terrible disease”.

As well as fundraising, Sunrise Sunset is a great day out for everyone, with competitions, barbecues and other fun activities across the many venues. As David Tuttlebee, W4CR’s founder and inspiration who sadly lost his battle with cancer last September intended, the event is “more than just a day at the beach”.

David always supported young windsurfers and in his memory, W4CR have commissioned the wonderful David Tuttlebee Memorial Trophy. With the RYA’s help, many T15 (under 15) windsurfing clubs will join Sunrise Sunset events and the trophy will be awarded to the T15 venue with the best fun and fundraising event.

There is still time to sign up for Sunrise Sunset 2011 – just visit www.W4CR.org to be part of a fantastic event in aid of a worthy cause – helping beat cancer.
