Izzy Hamilton Reports From Cadiz

The 2012 RS:X World Championships was possibly the windiest RS:X event ever; Izzy Hamilton shares her experiences of Spain…

With several days of racing cancelled due to 50 knots of wind, the RS:X Worlds in Spain will be well-remembered by all attending. A Silver medal for Nick Demsey and a fantastic fourth place for Bryony Shaw were the top results for the British fleet, but the Under 21s performed amazingly as well. Over to Izzy…

“I have just got back home to Cornwall after finishing the World Championships! I finished 17th which I am super happy about – Also I was 2nd Under 21!  At the previous Worlds, in Perth in December, I was 31st. I have been training in Spain on and off since January and the wind averaged 5-20knots. For the whole regatta a local wind blew called the Levante, it averaged 25 and gusted 30 knots on the days we could sail, and for 2 days of the regatta we couldn’t sail – maxed 50knots! Now I am home for a week and then back to training in Weymouth for a week then driving out to Hyere for one of the ISAF World Tour Races.”

Representing the Men’s U21 fleet was Connor Bainbridge who came 4th and 30th overall. Sam Sills and Tom Squires came in 6th and 8th respectively in the extremely challenging conditions.

Congratulations to all the U21 fleet for posting such great results and good luck to Izzy in Hyere.
