At the weekend Siam Park in Tenerife was the setting for an epic super session – with manmade waves and jet ski power – the worlds top windsurfers were towed-in and launched into some indescribable jumps, truly putting on an unbelievable show. And, it was Adam Lewis that stepped up to mark for the Brits and took second place, behind Ricardo Campello and in front of third placed Antoine Martin.
We caught up with Adam, who also took 9th in the main PWA contest, to find out a little more about how the super session went down…
“It was all little last minute to be honest; I’d been testing in Cabezo with the rest of the Fanatic team (we’ve got a couple of new prototypes that are insane!). Then I derigged everything quickly and basically went full speed to Siam Park.
“I’m not quite sure what happened but by the time we had the jet ski in the water it was already 7.30pm and the show had started! It was really nerve racking to start off with!
“All the people are cheering and you’ve got to half beach start/half up haul the sail, whilst holding onto the tow rope. It’s really hard on a wave board!
“Big respect to Vilayta the jet ski driver… they were changing the wave heights and the timing and he did an epic job of getting us to the wave at the right time. I went for a pushloop first as its quite a safe one, then I wanted to try one of those freestyle things I don’t know the name but it didn’t really work…I only had one more jump so I went for an air ponch thingy! I guess somehow I did enough!
“It is such an epic show with the sun setting and everyone cheering, the lights, the music and the wave!”
