Back for a 7th year, the universities of Bristol and UWE will be welcoming students from across the country for a weekend of guaranteed windsurfing madness.
Whether you’re a complete newbie to the sport, a seasoned pro, or just fancy a party, the weekend is sure to deliver on all accounts. Here’s a run-down of what’s in store:
The Racing
Being an event on the Core Series, BrUWE will be organising a variety of races. With races separated by ability, it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner who’s only been on the water a handful of times.
The third instalment of the Team Race Series is eagerly anticipated bound to be hotly contested. Back in December at Up the Brum, Cardiff stole victory over Bristol and Birmingham. All these teams will be hoping to put in a strong performance to keep them on the podium, however Southampton and Imperial are likely to be competitive: it’s going to be a close race!
The Freestyle
If racing’s not your thing, why not get involved in the freestyle? If the weather permits, you can expect loops and vulcans, and if the wind doesn’t turn up, competitors will be bringing their best light-wind freestyle moves to the water! If your moves leave a little (or a lot) to be desired, remember – this is the SWA, so anything goes!
The Party
Whether you want to celebrate some fantastic racing, or successfully drinking coffee and keeping warm, Bristol will supply an epic party venue. With the theme ‘wildest fancy’ very open to interpretation you can be sure it will challenge your preconceptions!
And The Rest
Brand new for this year, BrUWE will be featuring an inflatable obstacle course – if the wind is too much or even not enough – there’s no excuse not to get involved.
Finally, it wouldn’t be BrUWE if it didn’t involve jelly wrestling. The highly competitive sport where only one thing is guaranteed – it’s going to be messy!
