Three years ago the newly formed Gaastra "Team", with designer Barry Spanier, set themselves a daunting task: to wrestle the PWA world racing title from Bjorn Dunkerbeck. Within two years this was accomplished with Kevin Pritchard dominating virtually every event, if not race, on prototype Nitro race sails. Recently we have seen a shift of emphasis towards Formula racing – an area where Gaastra have already proved to be ahead of the game with victory for Kevin at the FW worlds last October and second place in the women’s competition for Lucy Horwood. The Nitro III is a refinement of the prototypes used to such good effect in Brazil and is the result of more than three years of development. Gaastra are the only major sail brand to give a custom colour option to their customers. Personal designs can be created using a web-based design tool.
