Insurance
Last but not least, when insuring your vehicle make sure you and any other drivers are covered for driving in Europe – most policies have this included or as an option. Some insurers offer a great temporary additional driver add-on for very little cost. Check which countries the policy covers you in – commonly visited countries like Spain, France, Italy and Portugal will be on the standard list but if you are venturing further you may need special insurance. Morocco is a good example where you are required to have a ‘green card’ – often a tricky thing to get from a UK insurer although not impossible. If your insurer doesn’t issue them it’s not the end of the world as a Moroccan insurance broker will be more than happy to sell you one at the border for about £85. Insurance shops can be found after customs in Tangier and seem to operate around the clock, however when crossing to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, the border seems less commercialized and getting insurance will be a time consuming process in the first town you come too. Be warned – the police do check and hand out hefty fines!
