“The laminar flow of the wind down the course is not particularly good, so it changes in strength and also to an extent direction as you travel down the 500 metres. The top bit of the course is windy, from the corner for about the first 100 metres and it’s also quite broad. Then from the point where the rider is in this picture, it starts to soften up and you get a bit of a lull about half way down. It’s a very difficult part of the course. The zone before the finish is very strong again and a little bit tighter. You really have to manage the strength and the direction change at this point. It’s enough to buffet you around and even force you to stand up a bit. You need some power to hold it down at the end.”
