Almost hitting 50 knots
Almost hitting 50 knots
When the board arrived I could see Jon had got it right and the finish was stunning. It was well worth all the arm twisting to get Jon to paint it chilli red! Jon doesn’t like to put a lot of paint on his boards as it’s all extra weight and accuracy of construction means there isn’t any filler to cover up.
On the water the board performed and even in moderate conditions I was matching my PBs. I knew that when the conditions permitted I was going to go faster. I didn’t have to wait long as the first January storms hit and I headed up to West Kirby. I rigged my already highly tuned 2015 North Warp 5.2 in the dark and at first light I did my fastest runs ever….almost every run was over my previous PB max of 47 knots. Sailing till dark, I finished the day with 49.62 knots on the GPS with a PB 45.7knot average for the day, which at the time of writing is the world fastest 2015 max and second fastest average.
My ultimate speedsailing goal is 50 knots, something deep down I always thought was out of my reach. It’s now only a whisker away and I know me and my kit can do it on UK waters. I have got my sights on it for a session very soon!
