Continuing our look back at Pozo 2014 now we catch up with Robby Swift as he lands in Tenerife, ready to train for the next event.
“I sailed well in he first heat then had a heat in completely flat water in the second one against Alessio.
“I did a good wave ride but only found one ramp to do a small backloop for the rest of the time. I was looking for a double that would get me through but in about 20 runs in and out did not even see a piece of chop big enough.
“Just have to move on to Tenerife now. My level was good, if I would have found any small ramp I would have been able to do a double but it was really bordering on uncompetable in that heat, not that I think we shouldn’t have competed, it was definitely the right decision to run, just made it quite dependent on luck with finding waves. Alessio was pretty lucky that on 2 runs out he found a small ramp to jump off, and did a couple of great jumps. That’s just how it happens sometimes.
“Very disappointing as my gear felt the best ever, my sailing is by far the best it has ever been and I was the most prepared I had ever been for that event but that is just how it goes I guess.
“At least I feel confident that my training has put my level of sailing as high as it has ever been so I feel confident for the other events.”
