Second Hand Windsurfing Equipment – A Simple Buyer’s Guide

What (Not) To Buy

Not everything you need to go windsurfing is ideal to buy second hand. Basically, any equipment i.e. boards, sails, masts and booms you can purchase good items in the second hand market if you know what to look for and what to avoid. More on that on the next pages.

But, what should you avoid? Things like wetsuits, wetsuit boots, harnesses etc. we recommend NOT buying second hand and going for new instead. There’s a few reasons why, firstly with things like wetsuits and harnesses FIT is key. You want a product that fits you perfectly and does the job it is supposed to, this might involve trying on a lot of options, something that’s a lot easier in a shop with numerous brands.

There also aren’t too many options for these sorts of products on the second hand market. People tend to keep a wetsuit or harness until it wears out, rather than selling it on.

Finally, hygiene. Do you really want someone else’s old, smelly wetsuit bootys?!? We think it’s well worth shelling out for new to avoid the risk of any sort of skin disease.
