Formula Windsurfing World Champion 2003 and current British Champion,
Christine Johnston, of Brighton, just missed out on a top 3 spot at the
recent World Championships. She tied on points for third place, but ended
up in fourth position on count back.
Christine had a promising start to the week, with good speed and close
racing with several time World Champion Dorota Stazsewska of Poland – who
was racing in her home country. She was a little unlucky to find two races
she thought she had finished in second and first position had been
abandoned, one after the race, and one in the latter stages of the race.
Later in the event Christine raced well, consistently placing in the top
3, although by this stage Dorota had notched up a string of first places
and was looking unassailable for the overall title. Second to fourth place
was extremely close on points, and after the final race Christine thought
she had done enough to secure a podium position. Disappointingly she just
missed out on count back, with Karin Jaggi of Switzerland taking third,
and Allison Shreeve just 2.3 points ahead in second.
Christine departs for Gran Canaria next Monday for the first in a series
of four Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) World Racing Tour
Events. The next three events will take place in Hungary, Germany and
France. Further informaion on these prestigous World Racing Tour events
