Young Windsurfer of the Year LWA Award 2004
14 year-old Kim Jiskoot was made “Young Windsurfer of the Year” last Saturday, 22nd October by the LWA (London Windsurfing Association) for his dedication to the sport and showing improvement over the year.
David Gilchrist, Chairman of the LWA, presented Kim with the award at Burghfield, near Reading, after the last race in the 2004 LWA Series.
Kim who lives in Sussex started windsurfing at Bewl Water at the age of 10, and began racing in the Team 15 system a year later. He was selected for the South East Zone Squad in 2002 and started racing on the national circuit in 2003, notching up some notable successes, notably winning the South East Championships and the Junior Rutland Marathon on Raceboard this summer.
Over the past year Kim, racing with the LWA, has consistently won his class at all the events held around the London area, beating many of the sailors hefting far larger sails than him. This has been a great achievement for Kim and it shows how some hard work and training can go a long way.
