FORMULA TRAINING EVENT

A formula training event is being organised at Carsington Reservoir over the weekend of – 20th-21st November 2004, and this will be open to all those interested in giving formula racing a go.

Top UKWA Formula racers such as Keith Atkinson, Nick Deverell, Xavier Ferlett and more have already confirmed that they will be on hand to offer tips and advice as Carsington plays host to another Formula Training weekend, back due to popular demand !

Carsington is located ‘oop north’ (just 3-4 hrs from south coast) in the scenic Derbyshire countryside, and the Jones family are offering to play host to those needing somewhere to park up over the weekend, due to living just around the corner from the reservoir and having enough space to accomodate a few vans. The juniors that attended the pre-season training event held at Carsington have all gone on to do really well throughout the 2004 UKWA season, so no finer testimony to the benefits of attending should be required to convince people to make the effort to attend this event. More mature (neh – experienced?) racers would also benefit from the weekend training, as well as enjoying the social aspects. Softer southerners should perhaps remember their winter suit …  as it’s a northern freshwater venue towards the end of November !!

Costs will be kept to a minimum, but expect to pay launch fees at Carsington and offer beer/food tokens to your willing and most capable  hosts and coaches for their time and efforts over the weekend. Evening entertainment is guaranteed, but also top secret at the moment …. It should be a good event for sure …. the place seems to get clean winds in
most directions, but as with all inland venues there are preferred directions.

WHAT’S IT GONNA COST FOR THIS WEEKEND OF EXPERT TUITION AND ADVICE ?

Okay, to cover the cost of the coaching, the cost of the launch fees, the cost of car parking at Carsington, and to enjoy a saturday evening shin-dig Torpedo style, with free overnight parking/camping thrown in for good measure …… all this is offered for the sum of just £40 for adults & £35 for U16’s (buoyancy aids likely to be required for U16’s on the reservoir so take note and come prepared).

HOW TO BOOK A PLACE …… please make out your cheques (for £40 / £35 as applicable) payable to ‘Mrs S Jones’, and pop in the post to –   Biggin Grange, Hulland Ward, Ashbourne, Derby. DE6 3FH. Please also include a note detailing you experience of FW & Freestyle and your specific interest for coaching over the weekend. Please ensure cheques are sent to arrive on / before 12th Novemeber in order that Mrs Jones can prepare for the evening shindig in good time, and so that Torpedo can let the staff at the reservoir know expected numbers.

NUMBERS ARE LIKELY TO BE LIMITED TO 50 PLACES SO IT’S ADVISEABLE TO BOOK EARLY. People unable to pre-book are welcome to turn up on either day, though we cannot guarantee space for coaching we will do our utmost to accomodate them. All people going afloat must have 3rd Party Insurance Liability Cover, ie be members of either UKWA  / RYA, otherwise they will not be permitted to go afloat. Anybody wishing to join the UKWA for this purpose will be able to do so at registration on the saturday if required. Alternatively log on to www.ukwindsurfing.com and do it early!

COACHING UPDATE …. your coaches for the weekend will include Dan Ellis, Lucy Horwood, Nick Deverell, Xavier Ferlet & Alan ‘Army-Be The Best’ Cross …. depending upon other prior commitments Aaron Williams is hoping also to attend.

Demo kit from Boardwise Sunday

Matt Pearch (TBC) & now confirmed Steve Thorpe to offer freestyle tips

Matt Wemms has confirmed that he’ll be there SATURDAY ONLY to share his knowledge and experience, as well as a selection of his ‘smaller’ demo kit.

DEMO KIT …. Matt Wemms is coming with a selection from 604’s warehouse of smaller kit, however a number of the top UKWA racers are likely to have some Formula gear that people could try out. There should be kit from Starboard/Tushingham, especially if Aaron can escape from the shop for the weekend. There is a good chance that there will be some end of season bargains available over the weekend so anybody looking to get into FW racing, competitively or purely recreationally, could do a lot worse than meet the pro’s and check out the many options that are available to them for second hand light-wind race kit. Bring whatever kit you have as there should also be opportunity to free-sail and practice those top tips in between sessions, and we can’t promise sufficient kit for allcomers to have demo boards for the full weekend. I’m sure that there is also hire-kit available from the centre if required.

COME PREPARED TO GO WINDSURFING, THAT’S THE PLAN !
