SPOCKING GOOD SHOW ADAM!

Tushingham / Starboard rider and University of Southampton student Adam Cropper has been crowned Student Windsurfing Association Freestyle Champion after the five event series that took place over the winter. Judging was based on overall impression so consistency and a flowing style were important as opposed to taking a “crash and burn” approach. Every event was a great spectacle for the masses of spectators: even when the wind was not conducive to hot action on the water the amusing commentaries through the SWA megaphone more than made up for this!

With the top competitors consistently pulling off clean spocks and flatwater forwards amongst all manner of jumps, twists and spinny things, the overall standard was impressive. Also worthy of note was the dedication of these sailors who braved sub-zero wind-chill factors, particularly on the Sunday up in Liverpool (where it actually snowed for a few moments!) It was this event that stood out for Adam with a tight final between himself and Darren Mitchell. Both were spocking consistently, close to the frozen masses on the water’s edge, making it a great showdown. Darren got the win but not being at university(!) and missing the rest of the events put him out of contention for the overall series.
