UKWA FREEWAVE CALENDAR

The UKWA has just released a new Freewave Calendar with some minor revisions for the remainder of 2005.

The Triple Crown Freewave International Open has been changed to one event with three disciplines at Tiree, this will enable Andy Groom to concentrate on making Tiree an even bigger and better event with Wave Sailing, Freestyle and the exciting new Super X on offer to create a true all round Freewave “Triple Crown” Champion. There will also be a great amateur freewave contest in Tiree for all levels of sailors, it will be a riotous blast of a week with fun sailing and partying for everyone.

Ireland is on for the 20th -23rd May and is now going to be known as “Andy’s K24 Craic” in memory of Andy Funnell. It will be a brilliant one off UKWA Freewave event open to all comers and will be used to test new ideas for competition formats and structures, as well as having a hell of a Boardseeker party. Don’t miss this one as it will be a very special event.

Rhosneigr is still on the published dates of 5th – 8th May but now becomes Round 1 of the National Wave Sailing Championships for Pro Men and Ladies, it will also incorporate the Welsh Amateur Wave Sailing Championships at the weekend.

Bigbury alters format and has a minor date change, it becomes the second round of the National Wave Sailing Championships for Pro Men and Ladies and incorporates the English Amateur Wave Sailing Championships over the weekend. It will now start on Saturday 10th and finish on Tuesday 13th September to create a better link with the Poole Windfest event which starts on Thursday 15th.

With Rhossy biased towards port tack and Bigbury towards starboard tack this exiting new wave championship event structure should undoubtedly produce the best overall male and female wave sailors in the UK, as well as encouraging and allowing more amateur, youth and junior sailors to enter wave competition.

The dates, venues and formats of all other UKWA Freewave events remain as previously published. Freewave sailing is really “user friendly” and newcomers to competition are also made very welcome at every event so no more excuses, give it a go soon.
