The 2005 Leucate Mondial du Vent PWA Super X World Cup – Day 4
Saturday April 23, 2005
It has been another day of waiting in Leucate as the forecast winds failed to materialize. Once the early morning cloud had burnt off, the vast expanse of sandy beach, was bathed in glorious sunshine and the weekend crowds began to pour into the village in their thousands.
The line up here at Leucate reads like a who’s who of windsurfing. With no less than 6 World Champions of past and present competing, there is a wealth of talent in attendance. Stars like Josh Angulo, Matt Pritchard (Tabou, Gaastra), Kevin Pritchard (Starboard, Maui Sails), Micah Buzianis (F2, North Sails), Nik Baker (Mistral, North Sails) and Ricardo Campello (JP, Neil Pryde), are all hoping to stamp their authority on the 2005 PWA Super X Tour.
Among the onlookers of this, the newest, most exciting discipline in Pro Windsurfing are all time windsurfing legends, Robby Naish (Naish) and Bjorn Dunkerbeck (North Sails), in town to fly the flag for windsurfing and the Mondial du Vent event. Joining Naish and Dunkerbeck, was the fastest windsurfer on earth, Finian Maynard (F2, Naish) fresh from setting a new world sail speed record of 48.7 knots.
The forecasters continue to argue over Sundays wind prospects, but the general consensus is that the wind will be back sometime in the next 36 hours, so stay tuned to www.pwaworldtour.com for all the latest updates.
