Freestyle Windsurfing World Championships in the Engadine

For the 7th time in a row the Stimorol Engadinwind is taking place on the lake of Silvaplana from the 13th – 21st of August. For the first time in the history of windsurfing the IFCA Freestyle World Championships are to be held in Switzerland.

The big aspirant for the World Championship title in freestyle windsurfing is Karin Jaggi from Switzerland. The world-fastest woman from the canton of Bern is longing to win another World Championship title in her home country. For the event are over 300 athletes from 20 nations expected next to the World Champion Antoine Albeau FRA and the European Champion Matteo Guazzoni ITA.

The Stimorol Engadinwind is belonging to the most significant watersport events worldwide and is starting with the legendary Engadin windsurf marathon on the 13th August. Thereafter the European Cup in the speed disciplines is taking place and from the middle of the week the spectators can expect the highlight of the event with the IFCA Freestyle World Championships.

The Stimorol Engadin Wind 2005 is the highest top-event offering everything your heart desires during 10 days. The world-best windsurfers and kiters are travelling from all over the world to the Engadine in order to participate in this event. The natural environment and the snow-covered mountains as scenery are guaranteeing an unique atmosphere for the actors. The event is just offering both on the water as well as at the parties and the several side events on the event terrain.
With the occasion of combining kite surfing and windsurfing in a single event, a new, trendy and ideal platform is emerging for the watersport in general. Next to the presenting sponsor Stimorol, which has been remaining loyal to the events for 3 years, Playstation 2 is getting into this-year’s event as main sponsor in order to benefit from the young and trendy platform. Likewise as a main sponsor the absolute Nr. 1 specialist for sportswear and neuprone from Brasil Mormaii is backing the event. During the first weekend the event is all about kitesurfing showing breath-taking jumps up to vertiginous highs.

The best Swiss kiter is to win a ticket to the Red Bull King of the Air in Hawaii. The event is not demanding any licence and is therefore open for all kite enthusiasts.
On Saturday 13rd August the legendary Engadin surf marathon, which is going to be raced on a newly designed circuit, is taking place for the 28th time. The marathon should mainly offer all participators a lot of fun at the longest and highest surf regatta worldwide. At the same time the appealing circuit can be observed by numerous spectators right from the bank of the lake Silvaplana. That’s how an environment will be created in which the spectators are at least equally excited as the athletes.

The Euro Cup Windsurfing Salom and Formula is also starting on the first weekend providing the action on the water until mid-week. The Slalom is open for all windsurfers. With a simple competition mode all water sport enthusiasts should be animated to participate in the race. Just everybody should be starting who is able to turn on two buoys. Therefore the spectacle will be surely given. The world-best windsurfers are going to participate in the race as well trying to gain points for the overall standings.

However, the Highlight of this years’s Stimorol Engadinwind is surely the die IFCA Freestyle World Championships and the EFPT European Freestyle Pro Tour. The world-best Freestyle Windsurfer are to battle for the coveted trophy of the world championship title. Besides one of the important stages to the European championship title is taking place in the Engadine. On the occasion of the European Freestyle Pro Tour (EFPT) radical freestyle moves and turnes will be celebrated on the highest level by athletes such as Kevin Mevissen NED, Matheo Guazzoni ITA (European champion 2004) or the leader of the current tour Andre Paskowski GER.

During the whole duration of the event the program on the water is to be completed by several acts in the event village and the already legendary parties. The Swiss freestyle skiing national team is going to present an amazing show on a trampoline in the event village as well as the world-best acropilotes who are going to show their abilities.

As another highlight of the event surely the Stimorol Engadin Wind party on the Corvatsch on the 20th August 2005 has to be considered having already gained cult status. DJ’s and special acts will transform the party night into an unforgettable happening where the crowd will be rocking with the world-best windsurfers until the break of dawn.
