2005 Nivea World Cup Sylt – Day 2

Clear blue skies and light to moderate winds treated the crowds at the Nivea World Cup Sylt to a combination of autumn sun of windsurfing action today. At the end of the morning, the wind picked up to around ten knots; theoretically strong enough for Slalom 42 competition. The riders of the first heats headed out on the water to check their equipment and the race course. While the sailors were out waiting for the contest to begin, the wind turned out to be too unstable to allow for competition, leaving the fleet on hold until conditions improved.
For the next half hour the wind kept hovering between 5 and 11 knots, but eventually it wasn’t to be today, as the conditions deteriorated to the point where no competition was possible. The fleet was called back into the beach, never to go back out again on the second day of competition in Sylt, Germany.
Tomorrow should finally bring redemption, as the forecast promises winds in excess of 20 knots. Provided that the conditions come through, the stage is set for some spectacular Slalom 42 action and possibly wave sailing as well.
