Endangered Wave in Madiera!

endangered wave in Madeira!!!!!

Greetings to all outdoor enthusiasts,

I am writing to inform you of a surfing wave in Madeira that is being threatened
by a proposed harbor development. It is a world-class wave located on the small
Portugese island in the Atlantic, a place which is undergoing a dramatic amount
of rapid tourist development, and something must be done at once to preserve
the future of surfing on the island. There are very few local surfers on Madeira,
so the international community has had to rally hard to force the government
to listen.

I have been managing a letter-writing campaign to encourage the Madeiran Government
to conduct the proper studies before the construction continues. Already, the
wave has been altered, and we are trying to convince them to

restore it to its former glory. If each of you could take the time to write
a few words in protest of this construction, the world will thank you. There
is a template letter at the bottom of this e-mail which you can use.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Dear sir,

I would like to express my concern regarding the proposed development at Lugar
do Baixo. To destroy a surfing wave such as this is to commit a crime against
nature. Surfing points like this are a rarity in the world and should be preserved
for future generations to enjoy. They are a thing of beauty much like an old
tree or waterfall.

Please, before any new construction takes place, take the necessary precautions
to study the effects of what you are doing. At the very least, conduct studies
to determine if your marina breakwall will adversely effect the surfing wave,
and if so, change the design to prevent this from happening.

I am also concerned about other construction projects on the island, including
rock-dredging and a future promenade at Jardim do Mar, as well as the future
sea wall extension at Paul do Mar. Please, before any more work is undertaken
at these locations, study the effects they will have on the waves there. If
you take these small steps in the right direction, the world will thank you.

Sincerely,
