Tiree Beach Report Day 4
The conditions on the beach this morning were much like yesterday, but windier which meant all the competitors headed over to the event HQ at Gott Bay. I forgot to mention yesterday that as well as all the freestyle action there was also an attempt to run a round of Supercross. It didn’t really happen because the wind dropped away, but nobody was surprised this morning when the call went out for pro fleet Supercross, the first time the concept would be tried in the UK in serious competition…
With a running start from the beach the sailors had to do a forward loop before jumping or bouncing their way over the first and second giant inflatable sausages, then duck gybe, then race back with one more sausage to clear before the finish. They did this more or less non stop all day, with a small break in between when the other fleets had a go. At the end of it all Greg Martin was the winner, but due to complex discard things it means that Phil Horrocks has sneaked into the lead (just) ahead of John Skye with Chris Audsley now in third.
But there weren’t any waves today so I suppose we had to do something. A bit of a lie in wouldn’t have gone down too badly though after an interesting karaoke session last night…
All in all so far we’ve had four days of action which really ain’t too bad. The forecast is for 20-25 knots tomorrow so it’ll probably be freestyle, with more waves expected later in the week.
