ALOHA CLASSIC – DAY 3

Maui, Hawaii (USA) – No rain-no rainbow – as the ancient Hawaiian saying
goes, and there was a lovely rainbow this late afternoon over the bay at
Ho’okipa Beach Park when the last heats of the day for the MEN OPEN were
run. So many top class windsurfers had signed up for this division, that
even with smooth running and on-time start with almost no breaks, the finals
could not be done today and will have to be concluded tomorrow. Winds today
were around 15-20kts again with waves averaging around head to logo high (10
foot).  There were 53 men competing in the OPEN MEN division.

The forecast predicts bigger waves, with already some nice sets coming in
this late afternoon. Spectators were treated to some amazing aerials during
the wave action, with over 500 people gathered at Ho’okipa to enjoy another
day of the 20th anniversary of the Aloha Classic

Tomorrow will see completion of Round 3, Round 4 – Semi-finals, and Round 5
– Finals for OPEN MEN, and the start of the JUNIOR and MENEHUNE Divisions.

Be sure to check out tomorrow’s exciting action with the final heats of the
MENs OPEN Division and the Junior and Menehune Divisions with top sailors
like Kai Lenny, Connor Baxter, Baker Grant, Skyler Haywood and the
competition youngest entrant, Bend Roediger from Kihei, Maui, (nine years).
Fantastic wave action is guaranteed.

And don’t forget, the awards ceremony is Saturday Nov 12th at 5PM in Paia,
in front of Simmer Style Maui/Livewire café. The post event party is that
same night at Jacques Northshore Bistro, in Paia across the street at 10PM
where DJ Ray Masters will be spinning tunes.

EVENT SUMMARY:
The Aloha Classic is one of the longest running wave sailing events in the
world. Since its inception in 1984, the Aloha Classic has been the
traditional finale of the Pro World tour. The top ranking international
competitors are invited to the Aloha Classic competing side by side with
Hawaii’s best.  The consistent trade winds and seasonally large surf make
the Aloha Classic the most popular destination for windsurfing media,
spectators and athletes. The Aloha Classic is the crown-jewel of wave
sailing events. Don’t miss the 2005, 20th anniversary edition, November
7-12, at Ho’okipa Beach Park, on Maui, Hawaii.

The historic 20th Anniversary of the Aloha Classic brings much needed focus
and attention on the youth and amateur market and is be the show case for up

are be gracing this event, providing a high level of sportsmanship and
excitement to the world over, and inspiring the next generation of
windsurfers to take to the water.
