Day Two Summary

The second day of competition saw bright sunshine and small clean waves at the Praia do Guincho. With the forecast still not calling for classic Guincho, the beautiful Portuguese beach slumbered like a sleeping giant. However long-time lovers of this epic beachbreak will all tell how this place can defy forecasts and turn raging bull at the flick of a switch.

During today variable winds brought shifty conditions, tempting a few riders out as a mist formed on the hills of Sintra above the contest site. Traditionally thick cloud cloaking the mountain brings the Nortada wind out to play, and all riders kept eagle eyes on the water and hills for the vital signs. The wind normally shows up late in the day here in tune with local custom of long nights and a relaxed start to the day, and so the competitors continued soaking up the atmosphere here on the majestic Estoril coast.

Head Judge Duncan Coombs has set skippers meeting tomorrow for 11.00 local time to keep the contestants on standby should the wind go nuclear Portuguese style.
