Day Three

The Praia do Guincho contest site today saw sailors and spectators enjoying the beach atmosphere and event sponsors’ free yoghurt drinks!! Not even lighter winds have teased us here today, but even the most relaxed sailors are always checking the scenic mountains and Atlantic Ocean from the corner of their eyes.

Head Judge Duncan Coombs held the skippers meeting at 11.00, and placed riders on hourly standby should a thermal effect or any unpredicted wind arrive.

Forecasts unanimously predict light winds throughout the week, and outlooks for the weekend vary, although none take Guincho’s unique local effect into account. A building swell looks likely for the weekend, and there’s no doubt that any wind will be used to rip this swell to shreds as the riders will undoubtedly expel pent up energy from hanging around. Until then the vibrant beach scene here on the Estoril coast continues to draw crowds eager to rub shoulders with the elite performers in international wavesailing.
