Worldclass Windsurfing on Lake Silvaplana in the Engadin, Switzerland

The 8th issue of the Stimorol Engadinwind takes place from the 11th to 20th of August 2006 on Lake Silvaplana, Switerland.

The Swiss Karin Jaggi – Freestyle World Champion – will provide also this year big action on the Lake Silvaplana on the occasion of the Freestyle Pro Tour. The fourteen fold World Champion and fastest female of the world wants to be on the top of the podium in her home country again this year.

Besides Karin Jaggi SUI other successful athletes such as Windsurf World Champion Antoine Albeau FRA, Normen Günzlein GER, Micah Buzianis USA and Allison Shreeve AUS will participate at the Windsurf Event in the Engadin.

The Stimorol Engadinwind ranks among the most significant water sport events worldwide and starts on August 11th with the European Freestyle Pro Tour, followed by the Euro Cup in the speed disciplines. On August 19th proceeds the legendary 29. Engadin Surf Marathon, which is the oldest Windsurfing Regatta ever.

The Stimorol Engadinwind attracts more then 300 athletes from more then 20 countries to the unique lake- and mountain landscape of the Engadin.

The Stimorol Engadinwind is the topmost situated event which takes place during 10 days. The world’s best Windsurfers and Kiters are travelling from all over the world to participate at this unique water sport event. The natural surroundings and the coulisse of snow-covered mountains guarantee an unforgettable atmosphere for the participants. The event offers as well action on the water, as at the parties and side events taking place on the event site.

With the possibility to unite Kite- and Windsurfers at one event, a new and trendy platform for the water sports is created. On the first weekend the event is dedicated to the Freestyle Windsurfers, showing crazy jumps and amazing tricks.

The EFPT European Freestyle Pro Tour is the world’s biggest tour in the Freestyle discipline. The tour stop in Switzerland belongs to the most important and brings the world’s best Freestylers to Silvaplana.

In occasion of the EFPT the most radical freestyle moves and turns are celebrated from athletes such as Normen Günzlein GER (World Champion 2005) or Kevin Mevissen NED (European Champion 2005).

The suspense will be perfect: the three freestylers Andre Paskowski GER, Antxon Otaegui ESP and Normen Günzlein GER, are tied leading the tour. It could come to an important preliminary decision on the way to the title of the European Champion.

The Euro Cup Windsurfing Slalom & Formula starts on August 16th and will provide action on the water until the end of the week. The Slalom is open for all windsurfers. Like this all water sport fans are animated to compete on this simple form of competition. All those who are able to surf around two buoys are welcome to participate. The world’s best windsurfers, who are collecting points for the overall ranking will compete as well. The world’s fastest Windsurfer, Finian Maynard from the Virgin Islands – holding the speed record with 91km/h – will participate as well as the world champion Antoine Albeau FRA, Micah Buzianis USA and Allison Shreeve AUS.

On August 19th the legendary Engadin Surf Marathon will be a part of the program for the 29th time in a row. It shall be 100% fun for all the surfers participating at the longest and highest set surf regatta worldwide. Meanwhile the attractive course can be watched by the crowd from the shore of the Lake Silvaplana. The Marathon is a classic discipline among the windsurfers and will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

The program on the water will be accompanied during the whole event time by different acts and side events, such as parties, at the event village. Even the Swiss Freestyle Ski Nationalteam will perform an amazing show on the trampoline and the world’s best acropilots of the ‚Slowflyers’ will show their skills on the event site.

As usual, the party highlight will be the Stimorol Engadinwind Party taking place on August 19th on the top of Mount Corvatsch, only reachable by cable car. DJ’s and special acts will make this party night unforgettable, partying all night long with the stars of the windsurfing world.
