Slalom Tour leader Albeau

There’s a full 53 man fleet of Slalom 42 racers with leader Antoine Albeau (F-192 Starboard / NeilPryde) joined by front runners Kevin Pritchard (USA-3 Starboard / MauiSails), and Finian Maynard (F2 / NeilPryde).

A 64-man wave ladder includes top dog Kevin Pritchard, Josh Angulo (CV-1) and 2005 champion Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro/ Naish).  Last years women’s champion, Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral/ North), joins the usual front runners, Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2/ North) and Iballa Moreno (E-63, Mistral/ North) in the women’s event.

The 32-man freestyle fleet, new to this location, are eyeing up the forecast and the flat conditions for the possibility of action before the world champion is crowned at the closing ceremony on October 1st. As expected tour leader Jose Estredo (V-1, Fanatic/ North) is joined by Taty Frans (NB-9, Starboard/ MauiSails) and danger man Antxon Otaegui (E-169, JP/ Neil Pryde). The amazing event site and its precision run German management looks better than ever, and the welcome as warm as any of the 23 years this event has opened its doors to the elite of world windsurfing, and the colossal crowds, eager to rub shoulders with the stars. A spectacular opening ceremony showed the truly international nature of PWA windsurfing to the crowds all here to watch the worlds best riders perform.

The weather forecast points to the possibility of Slalom or freestyle being the most likely to start first, with no suitable waves on the horizon as yet. Skippers’ meeting tomorrow is set for 10.00
