Speed Class joins IWA
Speed windsurfers have taken the next step forward in the development of their class. The Speed Class becomes the 7th member class of the International Windsurfing Association (IWA), a move that founder member Jan-Cas Smit, from the Netherlands, described as .. “significant and challenging”.
From January 2007 the class will be represented on the executive committee of IWA. Ceri Williams , IWA Executive Secretary, commented : ..” this move will bring fresh impetus to the aims and ideals of the IWA- ‘to unite, to assist and to serve’ the sport of windsurfing.”
However the immediate priority remains confirming ISAF status as an “international class”. The application made to the November 2006 Conference was deferred to allow a further period of time to evaluate the class rules. This process has been completed; and one direct consequence is adoption of a new name – International Speed Windsurfing Class.
Tour Manager, Markus Schwendtner, confirmed that eveything is in place for the 2007 World Tour and full details of events, rules and membership can still be found on the ISA website.
