The PWA World Cup Guincho Wave Contest 2007 – Day Three
No wind meant No worries for Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / Simmer) and Daida Moreno (North), the single elimination winners today.
Bright sunshine, and a building swell meant the competitors enjoyed the beautiful Guincho beach and the stunning Estoril coastline during this the 3rd day of competition.
Despite surfing, swimming, and relaxing, these competition hungry athletes kept one eye firmly on the horizon in case a wind line should appear unannounced.
By 16.00 Head Judge Duncan Coombs decided that enough was enough and called it off for the day.
With a double elimination to complete in both the Men’s and Women’s events, all hope is pinned on the forecasts towards the weekend.
Until then, yesterday’s single elimination winners; Victor Fernandez, who beat Kauli Seadi (Quatro / Naish) in a hard-grafted final; and Daida Moreno who defeated her long-time challenger Karin Jaggi (F2 / North) in a harshly contested women’s conclusion, keep their leads protected.
Tomorrow’s outlook is not positive, but Guincho is unpredictable and can turn it on anytime.
