PWA Announces third new Wave World Cup of the 2007 season, with the addition of the 2007 Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest to the competition calendar.
Continuing the growth and development of the PWA World Tour, the PWA is proud to announce that the tour will be returning to Brazil for the first time since 1999. The event will take place from the 9th to the 16th September at Ibiraquera, approximately 80km South of Florianopolis – home town of former PWA World Champion, Kauli Seadi.
Kauli strutts his stuff at Cape Verde
Prevailing conditions, that can conjure up anything from side onshore starboard tack jumping, to mast and a half high side offshore port tack wave riding, promise to make for an excellent addition to the comprehensive 2007 PWA Wave Tour. With very successful events already completed at Cape Verde, Guincho (Portugal) and Gran Canaria, all eyes will now fall on South America as the who’s who of professional wave sailing congregate to do battle once more.
In this, its first year as a PWA World Cup, the Ibiraquera Wave Classic will feature a men’s world cup counting for full ranking points towards the 2007 Wave World Title.
Kauli Seadi said of the announcement “We are really happy to be able to come back to Brazil for a PWA event. There has been a lot of hard work to make the event happen and now with the support of Mormaii and of the government, we are finally in a position to make the event a reality. The conditions in Brazil are fantastic and we hope to make the event a regular stop on the PWA tour.”
Richard Page, PWA Tour Manager said “2007 is a fantastic year for wave sailing and the PWA Tour as a whole. The season started in style, with what has been unanimously described as the best contest in history at Cape Verde and now, as we announce the third new wave event to be added to the calendar this year, we can be confident of providing a full and varied competitive arena of seven wave events, through which a true World Champion will be crowned. Returning to Brazil and the excellent conditions it offers is something that we are very excited about. This event is just another clear indicator of the growth and renewed interest in windsurfing and the massive potential the sport has right now.”
