SWA RRD/EZZY WAVES SERIES 3

A great weekend of Action despite the moderate wind and wave conditions..

The student windsurfing Rrd/Ezzy wave series final event at Avon beach in Bournemouth was set up to be the final showdown for the student wavesailors to compete against each other for the much sought after crown of student wave champion. As it was, many people may have thought that with a poor forecast the weekend may be a non-event consisting of waiting around and disappointment at the lack of planning conditions and waves. But this wasn’t to be, thanks to superb organisation of Southampton Uni windsurf club and Spot on Water’s Mark Agg-Jones the event was packed full of action.

The weekend started with land windsurfing, on TurfDog land windsurf boards. A freestyle competition was held on the grassy shoreline of Chirstchurch harbour. Adam Sims entertained the spectators with some new skool windsurf moves which included flakas and even a forward loop! On land! Next up was longboard waveriding, the waves at avon had picked up to a clean 1-3 foot! Despite the small waves a full wave riding competition was run, the Exocet Kona’s provided by Spot on Water were great for making the most of the conditions and all sorts of tricks were being performing during the wave rides. Chris Beng was the winner, and this win combined with his consistant results in Cornwall and Wales gave him the overall title for the Rrd/Ezzy wave series. Many thanks to Jem Hall for presenting Chris with his prize, and brand new Ezzy Wave SE sail at the prize giving. The second day of the event had even less wind but with the waves still present, the action continued with a Stand Up Paddle contest.

The next event taking place at the Bournemouth beaches is the National Windsurfing Week’s Slalom and Freewave, 3rd-5th May.
