Developed from the 2008 World Championship winning model, the 2009 board has been tuned yet again. The new Phantom 380 arrives in the UK in April. The board is a racing design built within the International Raceboard Class rules. It has a little more V in the nose to make high wind sea sailing more controlled. The extra-long mast track features a 75cm adjustment range that extends further forward, allowing the rider to maximize the waterline, close the gap and use larger sails. The centreboard has also be redesigned for better pointing ability. The lay-up of cloth and resin is unique in Starboards range. Full uni-directional ultralight carbon covers the entire board. A wood strip runs along the bottom of the board and a wood shell covers two thirds of the deck to provide super rigidity.
Here in the UK a new class association has formed to help the UKWA build longboard racing – all the details are at www.raceboard.org.uk. Log on to find out more.
Starboard UK importers are holding the 2008 price for this Spring – that’s £1599 inc VAT. Full details on the board are at www.star-board.com
