RYA Team15 Windsurfing Competition 2009 – round two
The annual RYA (Royal Yachting Association) North Zone Team15 youth windsurfing competition continues at North Lincs Sailing Club, Barton upon Humber on Sunday 31st May.
Young windsurfers from the RYA North Zone, all of whom are 15yrs or under, will be competing at North Lincs – home of the North Lincs Invaders – in the second round of this four stage competition to gain points for their club. This year the events are at:
Pugneys Country Park 19th April
North Lincs Sailing Club 31st May
Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club 28th June
Covenham Sailing Club 12th July
And the teams competing include:
North Lincs Invaders (last year’s North Zone Champions); Pugneys Pirates; Covenham Cyclones and the new team on the block – the Derwent Devils.
The club with the most points at the end of the series becomes the RYA North Zone Team15 Champion and goes on to compete in the Champions Cup against the other Zone Champions from around the UK.
Last year’s competition was a nail biter and this year’s competition has already started as it means to go on with the North Lincs Invaders ahead after round one. The other teams have a battle on their hands – but they are sure to be up for the challenge.
About T15
Supported by industry leaders Neilson, Tushingham/Starboard, Boards magazine, Windsurf magazine, and Neil Pryde, T15 was set up by the RYA to help make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at a grass roots level. Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches. The T15 inter-club championship takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills. Kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low – to find your local club visit www.team15.org.uk or contact the RYA 0845 345 0400.
