The annual windsurfing competition is due to take place next Saturday and Sunday 18/19 July.
A large contingent of competitors is expected for these events. There will be three categories of races, these include the Gold Fleet, Silver Fleet and Juniors. Events are planned to start at 10am on Downings Beach with registration and race briefing for each category. Racing for the juniors and novices will be in the morning only and will be closely supervised by the experienced and superb staff from Gartan Outdoor Education Centre. Other races for the Silver and Gold Fleet will be scheduled according to tide and weather conditions on the day.
The local defending Irish Champions will be out in force to compete again for their Irish titles. This should be an excellent spectator event and also a great opportunity for any up and coming young sailors who fancy pitting their skills against the best in Ireland this year.
The weekend finishes on Sunday afternoon with a prize giving ceremony on Downings beach for everyone who has taken part throughout the weekend. All proceeds will be donated to the RNLI and as always our grateful thanks to Mulroy Coast and Cliff Rescue for their continued support throughout these events.
“With three successful events now completed, the Irish Slalom Series heads to the North Western shores of Downings Co. Donegal for Round 4. A perfect location for all levels, event organisers Nick Fletcher and Gartan OEC ensure racing for all levels with plenty of rescue cover. No fancy racing equipment needed. Saturday night function with Live band and food followed by the legendary RNLI disco. Demo gear will be available to try out from Tushingham Sails and Starboard”. More info at www.irishslalom.ie
