FORMULA WINDSURFING EURO CUP, LAKE SILVAPLAND, 14-18 AUGUST
Day One
There was not enough wind here today for racing at the Formula Windsurfing
Euro Cup taking place on Lake Silvaplana, in Switzerland.
The normal thermal breeze was trying to blow through down the lake by the
afternoon, but it had to fight the gradient breeze in completely the
opposite direction. This bodes well for tommorrow though meaning that the
thermal pattern has been re-established, and we should get plenty of racing
action tommorrow.
There is a fleet of over 90 men here, and 14 women. A notable exception in
the men is that Wojtek Brzozowki (POL) although on the pre-entry list is
not here.
The location is stunning with pine trees rising high on either side of the
lake, and a bright clear blue sky behind the snow capped mountains in the
distance. The air is thinner here because of the altitude, and the
difference in temperature from the sunshine of the day to the night is
huge, something those who are camping will notice in particular!
It’s exceptionally also good for spectators with the start and finish line
just off the beach, and many are expected to come again tommorrow in
anticipation of some exciting racing action.
