UK WINDSURFERS TOP WORLD RANKINGS.

Nick Dempsey and Natasha Sturges fly high in their Olympic fleets…

The International Sailing Federation World rankings for the Olympic Mistral
Class at the end of 2002 showed Nick Dempsey and Natasha Sturges occupying first
place in their respective fleets. This has been just reward for both sailors
for consistent podium finishes over the last two years at International regattas
around the world.

This achievement is a first for the RYA squad system and reflects the planning
and efforts made possible by proper lottery funding. It is also a wonderful
endorsement for the RYA system as Dempsey, who from the age of 12 has risen
through the Junior, Youth and current Senior ranks to reach the No. 1 position.

The RYA squad system has often had its detractors but with these current results
the trainers, coaches and administrators of the Windsurfing division deserve
praise and congratulations.
