Surf Satisfies Sailors As Winds Wane In The Sunshine

The third day of the Mondial du Vent here in Leucate has still not brought
competition conditions to the patiently waiting competitors at La Franqui
beach. Thousands of spectators again flocked to the event and enjoyed warm
sunshine and a gentle breeze, which stopped just short of the required
wind strength.

The Mondial du Vent provides, not only an opportunity for fans to see
their favorite stars in action, but also a chance to check all the latest
gear from the big names in the sport. The trade show this year boasts
exhibits from all the major names, as well as having some of the top pros
to talk the public through all the latest design innovations.

Keeping a razor sharp edge on their skills is one of the hardest aspects
of a competition pro, and, after 1 – 2 days of relative inactivity the
pressure is obviously starting to mount. A few sailors did manage to take
to the water again, wallowing out and surfing the beach break back in. For
those without suitably large enough equipment, other means were necessary.

Holland’s rubber man, Remko De Weerd (Gaastra, Fanatic), took to his
skateboard to help keep his phenomenal balance finely tuned, whilst
Fanatic team mate Rich Foster (Naish, Fanatic) was seen pounding the
streets with girlfriend Chrissie, in his running shoes, trying to stave of
the unavoidable effects of a week of partying.

Forecasts for the coming days do not predict any wind too early in the
morning so it is likely that the bars and restaurants will be packed until
late tonight.
