MONDIAL DU VENT, LEUCATE PWA FREESTYLE QUALIFIER DAY 5
Waves Give Way To Wheels As Temperatures Soar And Wind Evaporates
————————————————————————
Today could only be described as a scorcher here on La Franqui beach in
Leucate. The sun rose this morning in to clear skies, which have remained
cloud free all day.
As usual the competitors of this, the second PWA Freestyle qualifier of
the season, did not delay in finding alternative forms of entertainment.
Some of the biggest sail powered names on the water strapped wheels to
their feet and took to the land instead. La Franqui boasts miles of
un-spoilt sand, ideal for beach surfing, and the Venezuelan delegation
proved that they can be just as agile on land as on sea.
With the wind still not materializing, another light wind Freestyle comp
was scheduled. Dominating the tricks was UK’s Terry Luxton (Naish, Naish)
with a railride, pirouette tack giving him the top spot over Pascal Joly
(Arrows, F2) with Remko De Weerd (Gaastra, AHD).
Despite the lack of action, large crowds once again filled the beaches,
proving that there is much more to the Mondial du Vent than just the
action on the water.
With the forecast remaining uncertain, everyone will be hoping for a
change in the weather on the final day tomorrow, here in the South of France.
