The PWA Hawaii Pro presented by Severne Sails (March 28th April 4th 2004)
For the first time in 4 years, Professional Windsurfing will return to its
spiritual home on Maui, Hawaii. The PWA is pleased to announce that the
inaugural event on the 2004 PWA Wave Tour, will take place at Hookipa
Beach Park from the 28th March to the 4th April.
During the last 3 years, the PWA has established its independence and has
worked hard to lay foundations on which the tour and the sport of
windsurfing can build. The Maui event will bring together the top wave
sailors in the world at what is considered by many to be the greatest
sailing spot on earth. This gathering of talent will represent a landmark
in the resurgence of windsurfing.
The event will attract the whos who of windsurfing and there are even a
few sailors rumored to be coming out of retirement to take their chances
against the young blood of the tour. There will also be a trials event
beforehand, so anyone with dreams of Hookipa supremacy can try their luck.
Richard Page PWA Tour Manager
Maui is the jewel in the crown when it comes to windsurfing contests. We
still have a lot of work to do, but we have now secured the funding that
will guarantee the event will take place. To be coming back to Maui after
3 years is a good indicator that windsurfing is strong and that it is
growing and we expect Maui to be just one of many new events that go to
make up the 2004 PWA World Tour.
Phil McGain PWA Chairman
Its been a while since we had an event on Maui, I know its been one of the
highest priorities for us over the past few seasons. We are getting a lot
of support from the local industry and Hawaii Tourism Authority to be able
to make this happen and look forward to seeing the sailors in action next
spring.
Svein Rasmussen Severne Sails
Severne Sails is supporting the PWA event on Maui as we believe bringing
this event back on the circuit will help create additional media exposure
for windsurfing. We hope that the Maui event will bring more excitement to
the wave tour and make it even more prestigious.
More information will made available closer to the event dates and regular
updates will be posted on
