Danielle Lucas reports from the third day of the Dahab Freestyle Festival on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula
Last night saw the Dahab Festival Night Tow-In where the competitors from the freestyle competition were able to show their style behind a ski boat. The event was supported by Radio Sinai, who put up a huge open air marquee, loads of music equipment and lighting in the Coralia Hotel, who did a fantastic job with the show too, offering special prices, great service and hosting a brilliant night.
The tow-in was trail-blazed by world champion Gollito Estredo, who amazed the crowd with his ability to throw massive moves, barely getting his feet wet! He was then followed by the competitors who all put on a great display of moves as well as some brilliant crashes! The conditions weren’t easy as the area was small, to get the boys doing their moves close in for all to see. Commentary was brilliant thanks to Colin Dixon and Owain Petrie, who kept the crowd informed on who the riders were, what moves they were pulling, the difficulty tow-in windsurfing involves and also how many more Cuba Libres Gollito needed to get him out on the water again to entertain!
The tow-in was then followed by a huge party on the beach, with most of Dahab locals and tourists enjoying the event to the early hours.
A huge thanks goes to all involved with the organisation of last night, in particular the Coralia Hotel, Radio Sinai and of course, Franco for the use of his boat and also driving the guys around all evening.
