Dunkerbeck rules Speed Classic Coupe de France

Marion Raïsi of Juice Events reports from the Speed Classic in Port Saint-Louis du Rhône, France

Bjorn Dunkerbeck storming to victory

It’s no real surprise that the multiple world champion Bjorn Dunkerbeck was crowned winner of the Speed Classic 2010. With a max speed of 35.76 knots he has not been able to improve the record established in Napoleon’s beach by Cyril Moussilmani in 2008 with more than 38 knots. We can find on the podium in second position, and first French, Benoît Moussilmani from Marseilles followed by Cedric Bordes (who set the fastest timing of the week with 35.96 knots) and Anders Bringdal. The battle was tight for the rest of the ranking and this is the best run of 500m recorded for each competitor that tipped the top 10.

For the juniors, three runners were selected to participate to the French Cup speed “with the pros” and were able to test their speed by realizing some good timing. Gauthier Bourgeois finished first with a run at 26.21 knots, which placed him in 23rd place in the general ranking of the 2nd round! Behind Benjamin Augé and Thibault Mosca fought for second place with around 24 knots runs. They showed that they were largely able to compete with the seniors and are just waiting for next year to attend the official event! In the women’s event, France’s Fanny Aubet beat Britain’s Zara Davis to the crown.

For the kitesurfers, Sylvain Hoceini is leading the dance at the end of this event on which kitesurf was guest of honor, followed closely by Sylvain Maurin and the young rider Benoît Jouffret. Nonetheless Alex Caizergues won the first round with a 33.71 knots run, but did not participate in the second round because he had to fly at the last minute for a professional appointment in Cabarete (Dominican Republic).

2011 in the starting blocks

The 2010 edition just ending, the organization (Marion Raisi / Philippe Bru) begins to implement the project for the next Speed Classic which should be significant. Indeed, after the success of this event, the idea is to develop the concept by extending the opening of a future international week to windsurfers, kite surfers but also why not the sand yachts, kite flying chariots and other speed machines. The appointment is already taken, so, see you all in fall 2011!
