Action kicks off today, so who are the teams and what’s the latest…
The first wave contest of the year and it’s lining up to be an absolute cracker. The forecast is firing and the riders have already been out practicing. In fact before the event has even started it has made claim to it’s first victim. Sad news for local sailor Shannon Bhony who will not only be missing out on competition but will also be off the water for quite a few months after breaking his leg during practice at Majanicho. However, this has left a gap in the ranks which must be filled. Another young Canarian stepped in – José Romero Santana, from Gran Canaria, will take Shannon’s place.
The riders all met last night and the teams were decide;
Team 1: Iballa Ruano Moreno, Dario Ojeda, Tom Hartmann, Justin Denel
Team 2: Nicole Boronat, Yannick Anton, Andrew Fawcett, Federico Infantino
Team 3: Fanny Aubet, Jules Denel, Will Ward, Francisco Casas Garcia
Team 4: Amanda Beenen, Stephane Etienne, Jose Romero, Alberto Ferroni
With the forecast as it is we can expect to see big action over the weekend. However, Monday will be the day the swell and wind peak, but with two solid days of competition before then the riders will be tired, and it has already become apparent that mistakes can be costly.
16 sailors, 4 teams and 4 days of solid wind and swell forecast. Let the battle commence.
