Delighted to be back competing on the World Tour after serious ankle injury threatened to curtail his burgeoning windsurfing career, Starboard’s Mikey Clancy (21) overcame all the odds at the PWA Pozo Wave event. In very tough conditions, Clancy was narrowly beaten in both the single and double elimination rounds. He lost to up-and-coming star Camille Juban by 1.5 points but vowed to be back now that his foot was better. The overall competition has set the bar very high in the wave discipline and even though Mikey landed the first clean double of the competition he was still outclassed by wild Morrocan Boujmma Guilloil in their opening heat. Philip Koster, the winner at Pozo, must now wait and see if his undoubted talent will see him pull off the overall PWA World Title for 2011 at just 17 years of age. Meanwhile Clancy is looking forward to competing in the tough PWA events more akin to conditions at his home spot in Ireland at Denmark and on Germany’s Sylt coastline later in the year. Mikey is sponsored by Starboard, Severne, K4Fins, DIT, Amex and Plain Lazy Clothing. For more info on Mikey at www.mikeyclancy.com
