Nik Baker, the UK’s No1 windsurfer, was a special celebrity guest at the launch of Lagoon Watersports new T15 team on Thursday 27th May, he was also accompanied by his coach guru brother Ant Baker. The Bakers ran a special coaching session for the kids, Nik and Ant both former racers on the PWA tour were more than happy to offer a few top tips to the budding T15 racers!
The session kicked off with a quick warm up, and then it was straight on the water for some tacking practice with Ant. Once the kids had honed their skills they finished off with some simple T15 style downwind slalom racing which was enjoyed by all. Tim Smith winner of race one commented ‘Nik and Ant are really really cool and enthusiastic its great to be taught by real pros, maybe one day I can travel the world windsurfing like they do!’
All of the children that attended the session originally learnt to windsurf at Hove Lagoon, arguably one of the best locations in the UK for learning to windsurf. The T15 Club at Hove Lagoon runs every Sunday at 15.00 and is open to any children that have completed their RYA L1. The Club is free for members but is open as a drop in session for anyone at at special subsidised price of £10.
Established to make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at grassroots level, the Team15 Clubs allow kids aged 15 and under to learn and practice new windsurfing skills and to develop their racing talents under the guidance of specialist RYA coaches.
