We have received the sad news that windsurfer Giles Stothert passed away whilst windsurfing, RIP Giles. Thank you to his son, Alex, for sending this through. Are thoughts are with Giles’ friends and family at this sad time.
“He was out windsurfing with friends at Cockerham Sands near Lancaster on the afternoon of Sunday 25th Jan and went missing. He was found at around 10 am on Monday 26th morning and had passed away. We would like to thank the RNLI, Coastguard, RAF, Mountain Rescue and everyone else involved for their brilliant efforts searching for dad in Morecambe Bay and the surrounding coastline.
“Giles was a well loved man, friend, father and husband and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. He, like all of us, found much happiness in windsurfing, sailing and the local outdoor life. He would always be looking at the forecast for the next session and dreaming of that perfect carve gybe. We are so grateful to the local windsurfers for calling the Coastguard immediately and this shows how important it is for us all to windsurf with others as much as possible and to have a contact plan in place.”
