The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) is fast becoming the UK’s number one windsurfing location. This ultimate boarding venue making use of the ample sheltered waters in Portland Harbour has attracted the attention of the UK Windsurfing Association (UKWA) as the ideal competition setting. The annual UKWA Youth and Masters took place at the Academy from the 5th to 6th October attracting 93 participants to enjoy not only the Olympic racing waters but also the onshore party facilities with outdoor deck. Famous windsurfer, Bryony Shaw, who won the first ever women’s windsurfing medal for the British Olympic Team was among the competitors at WPNSA.
Bob Ingram, Chairman of the UKWA, commented, “The WPNSA is a superb venue to hold such as a diverse event which includes youths right through to masters, the safety element of Portland Harbour is very attractive for our participants. The Olympics showcased how incredible our home UK waters are for windsurfing and the Academy is making positive steps to keep this legacy alive post Games. Backed up by incredible onshore facilities and knowledgeable events team, the venue can cater to our competition as well as social event requirements.”
The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy caters to all levels of windsurfing ability. The Official Test Centre (OTC), an important part of the extensive Academy development attracts a range of windsurfers. Everyone from people trying windsurfing for the first time up to those choosing to try and compare different windsurfing brand equipment use this centre. With an affiliated windsurfing school included at the OTC using quality instructors the Official Test Centre has a warm welcome for all windsurfers.
