LUCY RETAINS TITLE

Lucy Horwood retained her British National title at Bridlington last weekend
in the last event of the UK Wind Surfing Association Championships (UKWA) British
National Events series.

Lucy has achieved the title of First Lady in the British National 2001 Wind
Surfing Formula Class Championships and was 3rd overall in the Silver Fleet.
(1) Currently women are not allowed to compete with the all male Gold Fleet.

" I have had a good season, racing really well with finely tuned and
tested state of the art equipment. I have been using much larger sails than
those I used in last years races & am sailing with greater power than ever
which means that I am competing effectively against men in the silver fleet
."

Lucy will be racing in the Formula World Championships in Brazil 22-28 October
and has received a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) grant to enable her to represent
Britain. Lucy is proud & delighted to be the only female chosen for the
team.

British Formula Wind Surfing Champion 2000 and 3rd in the World Championships
in Thailand last year, Lucy is currently the Welsh National Champion 2001 and
well placed to succeed in Brazil.

The current female World Champion Dorota Staszweska has revealed that in this
years World Championships it will be a really close race between her and Lucy
– they came joint first at a recent Euro cup event at Silvaplana Switzerland.

Lucy – 21 years of age, speaks Welsh fluently and is currently studying for
a degree in Sports Sciences at Cardiff University
