In BWA (British Wavesailing Association) news, we’ve received this today from Willy Angus, the new organiser of the Tiree Wave Classic and owner of Wild Diamond:
To all windsurfers/wavesailors, I am sure that many of you will already know me through visits to Tiree and Dingle over the last twenty years but for those of you who do not, please allow me to introduce myself and introduce Andy, a key member of our team, in the build up to Tiree Wave Classic for 2015.
My name is William Angus MacLean (better known as Willy!). I run a company called Wild Diamond based on Tiree. We specialise in windsurfing, as well as other similar watersports. For any and all further information please refer to www.wilddiamond.co.uk With regard to the Tiree Wave Classic, over the last 25 years I have been a beach hand, competitor, safety officer, local liaison, judge, head judge and as of this year an organiser of this prestigious windsurfing event!
For 2015 onwards, I look forward to all the challenges of the new role! Andy Groom is a man who needs no introduction in terms of windsurfing competitions! Andy ran ‘Seventh Wave’ which laterally became ‘Boardwise’ (Glasgow) before moving onto a career in event organisation. Some of his finest windsurfing event deliveries have been achieved on Tiree but other standouts include the Namoutou Wave Classic in Fiji and the first Dingle World Cup in southern Ireland. Andy founded the Tiree Wave Classic and after a few years off the scene is now working with me to return this event to its previous success under his stewardship. He is one of the few guys in the UK who has genuine PWA world cup event organisation experience.
The whole teams bio’s and contacts are available via the official event site at www.tireewaveclassic.co.uk
However we are not the only ones who can help to make windsurfing competitions successful. You guys are the sailors and the people who make our sport and many of you will have contacts both inside and outside of the windsurfing industry, who we hope may have an interest in looking at what we are doing in Tiree with a view to how they could assist us and at the same time gain some ‘self’ or ‘business’ promotion in the process.
At this point in time therefore we would like to take the opportunity to reach out to you and ask if you have sponsors, contacts or business connections who may have an interest in Tiree for 2015 and/or beyond? If so, please put us in contact with them so that we can investigate if there is an opportunity that we can pursue together! Should you require any further information please contact myself or my colleague Andy. Both of us will be dealing with potential sponsorship & support for the 2015 Event.
Yours sincerely
William Maclean – Tiree Wave Classic 2015 Event Host
