Congrats to the 470 Crew, for their excellent Silver medal. But it’s been a superb day for our Olympic windsurfers too. Nick and Bryony have both delivered excellent performances in Race 8 & 9, both seeing numerous position changes, and – it has to be said – the cream is rising to the top. The current World Champs are at number one in each fleet now, and it is clear from the scoreboard who the real all-rounders are. The Chinese venue has actually thrown up a much more exciting mix of conditions than anyone imagined, and both races today saw good solid planing conditions.
It’s exceptionally tight at the top in the mens fleet now, with Nick in Silver, but just 3 points behind the Gold, and one point in front of Bronze. It can all change. In the women’s fleet Bryony sailed out of her skin to log a 3rd and 1st, and is now just 2 points away from the bronze position.
All the top sailors have used up their discards now, too. So it’s all to play for. Whether or not we get race 10, we won’t know till tomorrow. Otherwise, it might be straight to the Medal Race from here, and that is going to be some serious drama.
So potentially two more sailing medals from our Windsurfers – and Paul Goodison is looking good for Gold in the Lasers too. TEAM GBR ROCKS!
