The very top speeds in speedsailing might be recorded on mirror-flat water, but there’s a whole lot more to speedsailing than that. You don’t need the most perfect conditions and a purpose-built canal to have fun and set insane speeds.
Yesterday Hans Kreisel posted the fastest ever open water speeds and it was on production gear! Hans racked up an incredible 49.48 average at The Brace, Oosterland in the Netherlands. Jurjen van der Noord was close behind with a 47.75. Whilst Hans got the top speeds it was Jurjen who clocked up the most impressive, and we think the fastest ever 500 metre run on open water, as 48.6 knots! These speeds put the guys firmly in first and second on the GPS rankings so far; very impressive and proof that skill always wins out in the end.
Here’s how you could set your very own speed sailing top speeds.
