In the last heats preceding the men’s final, several top seeded riders did not make it through. Tonky Frans (NB-7, F2/ Gaastra) was terminated by Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro/ Naish), Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) was knocked out by Nick Warmuth (US-36, Starboard/ Gaastra) and Ricardo Campello (V-111, JP/ Neil Pryde) could pass Thomas Traversa (F-3, Tabou/ Gaastra).
In heat # 63, the last heat before the quarter final, Anthony Ruenes (F-85, Tabou/ Gaastra) brought defeat to Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro/ Naish) and Jose Estredo (V-1, Fanatic/ North) took out Andre Paskowski (G-2, F2/ North) to meet Ruenes in the quarter final. In that quarter, Ruenes was on a roll and disposed off Estredo with some radical moves including a sick no handed flaka diablo.
In the semi-final Ruenes was eagerly awaited by single elimination runner up Douglas Diaz (V-34, Fanatic/ North). Diaz ripped up the competition area with a long and diverse list of spectacular moves. Ruenes demonstrated he knows a thing or two about freestyle himself with one handed esliders and a one handed shaka, but it wasn’t to be for the Frenchman today and Diaz took the heat.
The final was a rematch for yesterday’s single elimination final: Taty Frans (NB-9, Starboard/ MauiSails) against Douglas Diaz (V-34, Fanatic/ North). In relatively light and gusty conditions, Frans kicked off the heat with a forward coming in, while Diaz spocked his way to the beach. Both riders made perfect clewfirst spocks, grubbies and switch chachoo 540’s. Diaz stuck a funnel, to which Frans responded with an slider 540. In the dying seconds of the final, both sailors went for the ponch, but neither came out clean. Diaz and Frans put up a sensational show, but Frans’ consistency pulled him through, winning the double elimination as well and fortifying his leading position in the Lanzarote Costa Teguise PWA Grand Slam 2005 freestyle contest.

Next stop for Offringa: Iballa Moreno. Knowing she had to go big to have a chance at beating one of the infamous Moreno twins and pulled out a spectacular repertoire including an eslider540, a grubby and a spock. Moreno didn’t hold back herself with a solid spock and grubby, but the heat went to Offringa, causing a sensational stir in the women’s fleet.
The adventure for Offringa ended in the semi-final however, where Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2) refused to be played by the new girl and laid down an arsenal of moves including a spock 540 to block Offringa’s way to the top. In the final, Jaggi faced Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral/ North).
